SUMMARY:Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association Conference
DESCRIPTION:Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association- Hong Kong \n8th International Conference of the Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association on the theme of “Collaboration\, Innovation\, and Impact: Bridging Academic and Professional Worlds”\, to be held in person from 11th to 13th December 2025\, hosted by the Department of English at City University of Hong Kong\, Hong Kong SAR. \nThe conference theme reflects the growing complexity in the social context of Languages for Specific Purposes and Professional Communication practices. Developments in technology\, including the recent rise of generative artificial intelligence and more long-standing ubiquity of social media communications\, continue to have a profound effect on the communication practices of academics and professionals alike. At the same time\, society is increasingly faced with a range of “wicked problems” that demand collaborative and innovative responses from stakeholders in the academy\, the professions\, and in industry. Issues of communication frequently play an important role in determining whether effective solutions can be found\, and\, to engage with these issues\, collaboration and innovation is essential. Against this backdrop\, this conference aims to provide a platform for academics\, students\, industry partners\, and institutions to discuss changing professional communication practices\, identify synergies\, and facilitate the collaboration and innovation needed to generate impact. \nConfirmed Plenary Speakers:\nProf. Averil Coxhead\, Victoria University of Wellington\nProf. Christoph A. Hafner\, City University of Hong Kong\nProf. Sylvia Jaworska\, University of Reading\nProf. Matthew S. McGlone\, The University of Texas at Austin \nInvited Panels\, Convened and Chaired by:\nProf. Lifei Wang\, Beijing Language and Culture University\nProf. Csilla Weninger\, National Institute of Education\, Singapore \nFeatured Panel\, International Society for Gesture Studies – HK Hub\nProf. Simon Harrison\, City University of Hong Kong \n15th September 2025: Early Bird Registration closes & Regular Registration Opens\n31st October 2025: Regular Registration Closes\n11th to 13th December 2025: Conference in Session (including pre-conference day on 11th Dec) \nThe local organising committee at the Department of English\, City University of Hong Kong\, looks forward to seeing you in Hong Kong! \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:CercleS LSP Focus Group Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues\, \nIt is our pleasure to announce the first webinar of what we hope to become a regular series for and by the members of our CercleS LSP Focus Group. \nIt will take place on Wednesday 12th March 2025 at 4:00 PM GMT (UK Time) / 5:00 PM CET.\nThe Zoom link is the following: https://cam-ac-uk.zoom.us/j/83447417936?pwd=ZIObxjf5rUoVP3Z3ZbeCBSlwHe0koK.1 \nMeeting ID: 834 4741 7936 \nPasscode: 542656 \nThe presenters will be Zhanna Kozmenko-Ihssen (Durham University) and Astrid Hermes (Exeter University). \nThey will share key insights from their project “What’s in a Name\,” which ran from October to December 2024. \nThis initiative of the “German for Business Network UK” group brought together students learning German—either as part of their degree or as an elective module—from five UK universities: Durham\, Swansea\, Cambridge\, Exeter\, and the University of East Anglia. Collaborating across institutions\, students engaged in a task designed to simulate the operations of a marketing agency. \nIn this simulation\, students from one university acted as the client\, while those from another took on the role of the marketing agency. \nThe goals were to: \n\nEnhance German language skills by applying them to real-life tasks\,\nEncourage collaboration between universities\,\nBuild transferable skills for career success\, and\nStrengthen intercultural communication and language use in professional contexts.\n\nThe presenters look forward to discussing the project’s outcomes\, sharing their experiences and exploring its opportunities in the future. \nBest wishes\, \nDavid Tual (he/him). Professor of Language Education. Director of the Centre for Languages and Inter-Communication (CLIC)\nCambridge University Department of Engineering \nBenoit Guilbaud. Language Pathways Convenor | Associate Professor in French | Room Arts B256 | Department of Language Studies | The University of Sussex |

SUMMARY:Business Language Case Fellows Program Application
DESCRIPTION:OVERVIEW: \nThe George Washington University’s Center for International Business Education & Research (GW-CIBER) is pleased to invite language instructors to apply to take part in the Business Language Case Fellows Program. The program offers a unique opportunity for instructors to get in-depth\, hands-on training on how to develop business cases for use in the language classroom. As part of the program\, Fellows will produce one full case\, as well as associated teaching notes and ancillaries\, which will be made available through GW-CIBER’s Business Language Case Clearinghouse portal. \nPURPOSE: \nAs a teaching tool\, business cases in languages require students to use their language skills first to understand and then to solve real problems faced by decision-makers in the business world. GW-CIBER Business Language faculty and previous BL Case Fellows have created multimedia cases in Arabic\, Chinese\, French\, German\, Japanese\, Korean\, Russian\, and Spanish but more is needed to cover a broader range of business topics\, companies\, scenarios\, and cultural practices and perspectives. \nDELIVERABLES: \nFaculty selected as “Business Language Case Fellows” will attend an intensive case-writing training\, write a new case (2-3 pages) along with teaching notes\, assessment tools\, and relevant ancillaries to enhance comprehension\, such as graphs\, audio\, video\, etc. Fellows will briefly present their completed cases and materials to the cohort at the end of the summer via Zoom. \nHONORARIUM: \nInstructors selected as Business Language Case Fellows will receive an honorarium of $750.

SUMMARY:Research Funding: Business language research and teaching awards
DESCRIPTION:Business language research and teaching awards\n\nThe Business Language Research and Teaching grants were established in 2010 by a consortium of 13 Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) who pledged a portion of their Title VI funding from the US Department of Education to encourage faculty and graduate students in foreign language departments to add a business-language dimension to their teaching and research. During the 2022–2026 grant cycle\, all 16 CIBERs have continued support of this important initiative with competitions scheduled in 2023 and 2025. \nIn 2025\, two $4\,000 and one $5\,000 awards will be awarded to research or teaching projects in foreign languages (excluding ESL and ASL). The 2025 BLRT recipients will present their research findings at the spring 2026 International Symposium on Language for Specific Purposes to be hosted by Wake Forest University. Recipients will also receive a travel stipend of up to $1\,000 to cover costs associated with presenting at this conference. Recipients will also contribute a write-up on their BLRT project for publication in the Global Business Language Journal. \n\n\nProposal Submission\nAll proposals must be submitted via the online portal by January 20\, 2025
