SUMMARY:AELFE-TAPP 2021 Conference
DESCRIPTION:This joint AELFE-TAPP Conference brings together the 19th annual conference of AELFE (Asociación Europea de Lenguas para Fines Específicos/European Association of Languages for Specific Purposes) and the 2nd Conference of the Trans-Atlantic and Pacific Project (TAPP)\, a growing virtual exchange network that has developed transnational collaborative projects on specialised communication\, translation and user experience. The combination of both conferences will allow participants to link the fields of languages for specific purposes (LSP) and telecollaboration/virtual exchange. \nThe annual AELFE Conference is a meeting point for scholars interested in academic and professional communication from a multidisciplinary perspective. \nThe first TAPP conference was held in Fargo (ND\, USA) in 2016\, under the theme “Converging fields”. This second edition\, “Expanding networks”\, will explore virtual exchange from the perspective of its consolidation and will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners from different networks to share their experience and insights. \nIn a networked era\, we are faced with the challenges of faster and more complex communication involving a variety of languages\, participants and modes.  Academic and professional communication also poses challenges related to disciplinary literacies and interdisciplinary collaboration. As higher education is undergoing a process of increased internationalization\, especially through English-medium instruction (EMI) and internationalization at home and abroad\, we ask: What is the role of LSP teaching and research? How can academics expand their international and multidisciplinary networks? How can educators best prepare future graduates for complex multilingual and multicultural work and study environments? \nWith an emphasis on the demands of international academic and professional language use as well as on the opportunities afforded by technology for collaboration and intercultural communication\, the AELFE-TAPP 2021 Conference will provide scholars with the opportunity to discuss advances in academic and professional communication as well as in virtual exchange. \nTogether with an inspiring academic programme\, participants will also enjoy a social programme in a privileged location\, Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona)\, which will offer participants plenty of opportunities to strengthen their academic and social networks.

SUMMARY:LSPPC6: 6th International Conference of Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association (Online Conference)
DESCRIPTION:The Asia-Pacific Languages for Specific Purposes & Professional Communication Association is pleased to announce the 6th International Conference of the LSPPC on the theme of Multimodality and Beyond: Addressing complexity and emerging needs in LSP. \nThe study of Languages for Specific Purposes and Professional Communication has progressed rapidly over the past thirty years. Recent developments suggest emerging needs for English language learners that require more sensitive conceptual frameworks and methodologies. The pervasive use of digital media has led to the development of academic and professional practices that are multimodal\, plurilingual and often seek to engage diversified audiences. At the same time\, technology and new methods have become readily available to study LSP and Professional Communication in a widening range of settings from increasingly diverse angles\, shedding light on complexity that understandably once lay beyond the standard analytical purview. The use of digital technologies along with theoretical and methodological developments in areas including multimodal discourse analysis\, multimodal interaction\, gesture studies\, and embodied cognitive science have revolutionized our understanding of specialized language and communication. \nThe 6th international conference of the Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association aims to develop a high resolution picture of how our field is dealing with these scientific and technological advances. To help achieve this aim\, five scholars who are renowned internationally for their work related to the conference themes have been invited to deliver plenary lectures and run hands-on workshops for the conference participants. Additionally\, the conference program will feature three invited panels on the themes of the conference\, convened and chaired by specialists in this area. Given the importance of gesture to multimodality\, we are pleased to be organising this conference in collaboration with the regional hub of the International Society of Gesture Studies (ISGS Hong Kong).

SUMMARY:13th Languages & the Media Conference and Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 edition of Languages & the Media\, the 13th International Conference on Language Transfer in Audiovisual Media\, will be riding the wave of recent trends that are fast becoming reality in audiovisual localisation. \nNew working conditions are rolling in faster than ever before. Innovation is the order of the day. The industry is consolidating while new entrants are disrupting the conventional workplace. Platforms are proliferating. Immersive environments are becoming more pervasive. New workflows are emerging. Concurrent translation and post-editing are gaining ground. Language tools are being integrated and experimentation and reinvention abound. \nThe need for research has never been greater. With the validity of older norms and standards under scrutiny\, new models of good practice are emerging\, forcing the audiovisual localisation industry to take stock and re-examine audience needs while legislation and regulation are also whipping up the wind of change. As our 2018 keynote speaker David Padmore pointed out\, our shared goal is to break down language and sensory barriers to audiovisual content that educates\, informs and entertains the world. To achieve this\, all stakeholders must come together and collaborate to address our industry’s challenges with responsible\, comprehensive and fair strategies. And what better place to do this than at the 13th Languages & the Media conference which will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin from December 14 – 16\, 2020 under the overall theme “Riding the Wave”\, this time round with more rooms\, upgraded facilities and a few surprises that we hope will make your experience unique.
