Margaret Gonglewski-German

Dr. Margaret Gonglewski came to GW to direct the German language program in 1995, after completing her Ph.D. in German at Georgetown University. Her scholarly work centers on second language pedagogy, and she is active in producing materials for teaching and learning German, including the introductory-level textbook Treffpunkt Deutsch (Pearson). Dr. Gonglewski has also published articles on topics ranging from developing multiliterate learners to teaching sustainability in the advanced level language course.

As Coordinator of Business Language Programs at the GW Center for International Business Education and Research (funded by a grant from the Department of Education), Professor Gonglewski works on cross-disciplinary projects that link the study of language and culture to international business in both theory and practice. She recently spearheaded the relaunch of the Global Business Languages journal, which she co-edits with GW Professor of Arabic, Mohssen Esseesy. She regularly gives workshops and seminars on business language teaching, particularly in partnership with her long-time collaborator Prof. Anna Helm from GW’s School of Business.
